Sunday Film Series: A 23 Second Half Time Show

State Marching Band perform. Today’s time-lapse video condenses their halftime tribute to veterans down to twenty-three seconds.
Twenty three seconds of the Power Sound Of The South is not enough, so here is the halftime show in real-time with sound.
Before you watch, I feel compelled to give the Amazing Grace with bagpipes warning. As one who has heard that waaaay too much, I know it can kick people’s butts. It does mine, every time. They brought in the University Pipe Band for this show, the arrangement is fantastic.
Aw, gee, thanks for making me all teary-eyed! ND, too, has a bagpipe band, so I kind of knew what I was getting into when I decided to view the entire halftime show — they’ve got a good sound (as does the Band). You’re fortunate to have gotten to a game already — I’m going up later in October for a weekend and can’t wait! You done good, dad!
This show is part of a tribute to the Vets that is the theme of the whole game. It is always well done. I like that arrangement when the band picks things up at the end.
So great to see him play at a school where the band is loved.

I just love a running entry! ND does that, too. And the version of the National Anthem that State plays is wonderful — so many trumpet flourishes. Do you get all choked up, too, when they play the Alma Mater?!!
Yeah, and it isn’t even my school.
I think I associate it with senior day, when they pull them out and everyone else plays.
You must be one proud Papa. All Americans…heck, anyone from anywhere, should see a live university football game at least once. And never mind the arrangement, how about those formations? Super cool.

On top of all that, just got the word that they’ve been invited to play in Spain this January. What a great opportunity.
I had to wait to watch the full version so I wouldn’t be a blubbering idiot in front of anyone else. I always cry at “Amazing Grace”, I always cry at bagpipes, and the marching bands always move me. So here I am, a puddle. Congratulations to Omawari-son for being a part of this.

I’ve been spending some time doing things I used to like to do, which last week included painting some rooms. Turns out, I don’t like that as much anymore, now that balancing on top of the refrigerator to reach the far corner of the ceiling isn’t what you might call a graceful experience. But I digress.
On Saturday while I was applying “Hemp” to my walls (I’m not really a hippie. That’s a Martha Stewart color. Her time behind walls seems to have influenced her lexicon.), I had college football on. I didn’t have too much stake in either game, and with NFL games, I lose interest unless I am rooting for a team, but with the college games, I enjoyed it all so much — the music, the excitement, the pacing.
I assume you are aware that Maryland is playing NC State for homecoming this year. I’ll have to choose a side in that one. Sorry.
Moving that fridge around the house to paint must be a pain.
